Icons and symbols used in the SEP sesam GUI


The SEP sesam GUI contains various icons that represent specific resources or indicate the status of various operations. Find out the meaning of the different colors and icons used in the GUI.

Menu bar and toolbar icons

Icon Description
  Clicking Dashboard allows you to check SEP sesam operations and their status online.
  Clicking Immediate Start: Backup enables you to select an already configured task and start the backup immediately.
  Clicking Restore Assistant opens the online restore assistant in the external web browser.
  Clicking Restore Wizard opens the wizard that enables you to start the restore immediately.
  Clicking Backups shows a list of all performed backups and their status.
  Clicking Calendar Sheet provides an overview of all scheduled, completed and expired events with their current status.
  Clicking About SEP sesam shows a SEP sesam version information.
  Represents SEP CAPS (Cloud App Protection Service), SEP backup and recovery solution for Office 365, G Suite, Salesforce and Dynamics 365.
  Clicking Start Disaster Recovery allows you to start SEP sesam Server disaster recovery immediately. Only available if the backup task SESAM_BACKUP is configured and the sm_disaster interface is activated. See SEP sesam Server Disaster Recovery.
  Notification Center white flag is displayed when there are currently no open notifications. Clicking the flag displays the list of all resolved messages.
  Notification Center orange flag is displayed when there are new notifications issued by the SEP sesam Server that need to be checked.

Main selection icons

Icon Description
  Clicking Clients provides a list of all interconnected, in SEP sesam configured computers – SEP sesam Clients and their properties.
  Clicking Data Stores shows all configured data stores and their properties, such as type, utilization, capacity.
  Clicking Loaders shows all configured loaders.
  Clicking Drives shows all configured drive groups and their drives.
  Clicking Media Pools shows all configured media pools and their media.
  Clicking Media shows a list of media, containing all media prepared for use with SEP sesam.
  Clicking Tasks by Clients shows a list of configured locations with their clients and configured tasks.
  Clicking Tasks by Groups shows a list of configured task groups and related tasks.
  Clicking Backup Plans provides an overview of all migration and replication tasks, as well as task groups and backup tasks.
  Clicking Migration Tasks shows all configured migration tasks.
  Clicking Replication Tasks shows all configured replication tasks.
  Clicking Tasks as List shows a list of all configured backup tasks and their properties, such as task type, location and client, source and excludes.
  Clicking Schedules shows an overview of all configured schedules.
  Clicking Events shows a chronological list of all of your upcoming events: backup-, restore-, migration-, replication-, media-, command-, and NEWDAY events.
  Clicking Events as List provides a list of all configured events, sorted by their type, such as command, replication, restore, etc.
  Clicking Calendar Sheet provides an overview of all scheduled, completed and expired events with their current status according to their start time.
  Clicking All results provides a list of all jobs (backups, restores, migrations, etc.) and their details, such as event type, state, saveset, task, backup EOL, etc.
  Clicking Backups provides a list of all performed backups and their details, such as status, backup EOL, data size, throughput, etc.
  Clicking Restores provides a list of all performed restores and their details, such as status, data size, media pool, start/stop time, etc.
  Clicking Migrations and Replications Clicking Migrations and Replications provides a list of all performed migrations and replications and their details, such as status, start/stop time, progress, etc.
  Clicking Media Actions provides an overview of all media actions (e.g., initialization, readability check, purge, etc.) and their details, such as status, duration, drive number, etc.
  Clicking Dashboard allows you to check SEP sesam operations and their status online.
  Clicking Last Backup State shows previously executed jobs with their last backup status and the jobs which have never been backed up.
  Clicking Processes shows the status of SEP sesam processes on the SEP sesam Server.
  Clicking Monitoring: Drives shows a drive queue.
  Clicking Notification Center shows all notifications from the SEP sesam Server.
  Clicking Logging shows different logs, e.g., state, day, error, or interface logs.

Status icons

The status-related icons show the job status, e.g., backup, restore, migration, etc.

Icon Description
  The job has been blocked.
  The job has been cancelled.
  The job has been deleted.
  The backup job is in the process of being deleted.
  The job failed with an error.
  The job failed with the fatal error.
  The job is in queue.
  The job has been completed successfully.
  The job is past due.
  The event has been suppressed due to lower priority.
  The job has not finished within the set time limit (exceeded its execution window).
  The job waits for the execution.
  A warning occurs during the job execution.

Backup status icons

Icon Description
  The backup task is active.
  The backup task has been cancelled.
  The backup failed with an error.
  The backup task is in queue.
  The backup has been completed successfully.
  A warning occurs during the backup.
  EOL (Backup/Saveset) has expired. The saveset will be deleted with the next purge.
  EOL (Backup/Saveset) has not yet expired. If the Backup EOL has not yet expired (blue circle) but the Saveset EOL has expired (gray circle), the saveset with the expired Saveset EOL will be deleted. In this example another backup saveset (migrated or replicated) still exists, therefore the backup is not lost.

Media status icons

Icon Description
  The media initialization is in progress.
  The purge is in progress.
  The tape media has not been read during the readability check.

Client status icons

Icon Description
  The backup execution is disabled on the client.
  The client is not accessible.
  The system checks if the update is available for the client.
  An update is available for the client (may be any of the following: a new SEP sesam package, a service pack or in case of a SEP sesam Server, a UI server update).
  The backup execution is disabled on the server.
  The server is not accessible.
  The backup execution is disabled on the RDS.
  The RDS is not accessible.

Data store status icons

The data store status icons consist of three parts:

  • The top bar shows the clone status of the S3 store.
  • The middle bar shows the sanity state of the Si3 store.
  • The bottom bar shows the data store status.
Icon Description
  The data store state has errors.
  The data store state is OK (good).
  The data store and Si3 state are OK (good).
  The Si3 and the sanity state are OK, but the S3 clone state shows an error.
  The Si3 store state shows an error, but its sanity state is OK.
  Shows the Si3 status under the Si3 State tab.

Context menu icons

The following general icons can be found in the context menus.

Icon Description
  Clicking Auto update will refresh (update) the displayed content automatically every 20 seconds.
  The displayed content will be refreshed again within 20 seconds.
  The Auto update option is disabled, thus the content is not automatically refreshed.
  Clicking the Copy icon enables you to copy previously selected items.
  Clicking the Delete icon allows you to delete previously selected items.
  Clicking the Download icon enables you to download the main log or trace log, respectively.
  Clicking the Export icon enables you to export the status tables (e.g., backups) in the .xls or CSV format.
  Clicking the Help icon opens the relevant wiki article with additional information.
  Clicking the Information icon provides additional information about the selected option.
  Represents the location; a group of clients.
  Clicking Properties opens the properties of the selected item, e.g., client, task, etc.
  Clicking Refresh shows the updated view.
  Clicking Send enables you to send the relevant log (e.g., main, day, error, etc.) by email.
  Represents a filter which enables you to easily find a specific content.
  Represents a user.
  Represents a group of users.
  If selected, the data is displayed in the table view mode.
  If selected, the data is displayed hierarchically in the tree view mode.

Client-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a client, i.e., workstation, PC, virtual machine or file server.
  Represents a server.
  Represents an RDS.

Backup-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a backup task.
  Represents a backup event.

Restore-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a restore task.
  Represents a restore event.
  Clicking Immediate Start: Restore enables you to select an already configured task and start the restore immediately.

Data store-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a data store.
  Shows the data store-related media actions under the Actions tab.
  Under the Savesets tab, the savesets, stored on the respective data store, are shown.
  In case of Si3 deduplication store, configured for backing up to S3 cloud storage, the S3 Credentials tab is shown.
  Clicking Clean Up allows you to manually remove orphaned savesets from the data stores.
  Clicking Purge allows you to start purge manually.

Loader-related icons

Icon Description
  Clicking the Loader icon enables you to configure a new loader, see Configuring a Loader.
  Clicking the Loader Content shows a symbolic representation of the loader. It is constantly updated and always shows the current status.
  Clicking the Archive Adjustment icon enables you to set up archive adjustment.
  Clicking the Loader Action icon enables you to select a specific loader action, e.g., import, export, unload, etc.

Drive-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a drive.
  Represents a disk drive.
  Represents a drive group.
  Clicking the Drive Action icon allows you to manage the specific drive and media in the drive.

Media pool-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a tape media pool.
  Represents a disk media pool.

Media-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents tape media.
  Represents disk media.
  Represents the media event.
  The media is locked until its retention time has expired, see Managing EOL.
  The media is not locked and can be used for backups.
  The tape media is write-protected.
  The tape media is not write-protected and can be used for backups.

Migration-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a migration.
  Represents a migration task.
  Represents a migration event.
  Represents the result of a migration task.

Repliction-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a replication.
  Represents a replication task.
  Represents a replication event.
  Represents the result of a replication task.

Schedule-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a schedule.
  Represents a schedule with linked events.
  Represents a schedule without linked events.
  Represents the events which are not linked to a schedule.

Other event-related icons

Icon Description
  Represents a command event.
  Represents a NEWDAY event.
  Represents a task group-related event.

Client browser-related icons

As of SEP sesam v. 4.4.3 Beefalo V2, the following icons are displayed in the Client File View window when creating a backup task and browsing for the source. For details, see Tasks by Clients.

Icon Description
  Represents a CD-ROM.
  Represents a database.
  Represents a directory link.
  Represents a Microsoft Excel file.
  Represents an executable file (exec file).
  Represents a mail folder.
  Represents a network drive.
  Represents a file/page link.
  Represents a backup path.
  Represents a VMware VCB image used for image level backups.
  Represents a virtual app.
  Represents a VM cluster, e.g., Hyper-V cluster, RHV cluster, etc.
  Represents a VM data center, e.g., vSphere data center.
  Represents a VM server.
  Represents a VM disk (VMDK).
