Overview

The restore of NetApp data is quite similar to a regular file system restore. It can be triggered from the Menu bar -> Activities -> Restore. GUI restore wizard guides you through the process of restoring your data. For details on how to configure a restore task and a description of different restore options, see Standard Restore Procedure. Only NetApp NFS restore-specific steps and options are described in this section.

Note that SEP sesam provides the web Restore Assistant interface which is designed to be more intuitive and offers additional advanced options compared to GUI restore wizard while, on the other hand, it does not support the restore of special tasks types, such as NetApp, NDMP, Oracle, etc. For these task types you can only use the GUI restore wizard to restore your data.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure that you have required permissions and access rights for NetApp restore.
  • When restoring to the original volume, the system acting as a data mover must have write access to volumes on the NetApp system via NFS.
  • Make sure that there is sufficient free space on the system to which you are restoring your data.

Restoring NetApp data to the original volume

If you want to restore the data to the original volume, select the files required for the restore in the SEP sesam restore wizard. The restore target consists of the volume name (default). Alternatively, you can also specify a subdirectory as a new restore target. Make sure that the system acting as a data mover has write access to volumes on the NetApp system via NFS.

  1. From the SEP sesam GUI menu bar, select Activities -> Restore. The New Restore Task window opens.
  2. Select what you want to restore. You can search savesets by task name or by filename or path.
  3. Under the Saved in period drop-down lists, specify the time frame for which you want to conduct the search. Click Next.
  4. The search results are displayed. From the list of savesets matching your query, click the version you want to restore. Click Next.
  5. NetApp NFS restore select task Beefalo V2.jpg
  6. In the Select Files dialog, select the data you want to restore and click Next.
  7. If you want to restore the data to the original volume, make sure the option Restore to original target path is selected and click OK. Optionally, if you want to restore the data to the subdirectory, select New restore target and specify a subdirectory to which you want to restore. For example, if the data was backed up from a volume test and it should be restored to the subdirectory test_restore, specify the new restore target as follows:
  8. test:/test_restore NetApp NFS restore target Beefalo V2.jpg
    Click OK and then Next.
  9. In the final step of the restore wizard (Summary window), you can review all the settings of your restore task. You can start the restore immediately or save the restore task as a template for future use.
Information sign.png Note
A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.

Monitoring restore

You can view the status of your restore jobs by selecting Job State -> Restores from the Main Selection. Restore overview provides detailed information on the last run of restore jobs, including the task name, status (successful, error, in queue, etc.), start and stop time of the last backup, data size, throughput, client, media pool and message.

As of 4.4.3 Beefalo V2, you can also monitor the restore progress using the Web UI. For details, see SEP sesam Web UI.
