Overview
A restore task, which is created using the Restore Assistant, defines the scope and options of a restore. Restore Assistant provides a proven and user-friendly approach to defining restore tasks. It offers an intuitive workflow, guiding you through the necessary steps to specify the scope and methodology for restore. Once a restore task is configured, it can be saved and then accessed through the SEP sesam Web UI.
The Web UI provides a user-friendly interface that enables management and overview of restore operations in SEP sesam. You can review and modify configured restore tasks and schedules, start restore tasks, and monitor the progress and status of completed restore jobs.
A restore task can be started immediately, or saved and linked with a restore event to a schedule for regular or repeated execution.
In scenarios, where you may need to run a restore task at specific times, a restore event is created using the SEP sesam graphical user interface (GUI). This enables you to schedule restores. For example, you might want to perform a selective restore that runs automatically at the completion of your daily backup routine, allowing you to verify and control the data integrity by restoring the last backed up file to a new directory.
Restores can also be integrated with backup events by configuring them as follow-up events. Restore will be automatically initiated immediately after successful backup. This integration enables prompt verification of the backup data, ensuring data integrity and reducing the risk of data loss.
Create a restore event
To create a new restore event, go to Main Selection -> Scheduling -> Schedules, right-click on a schedule and then click on New Restore Event.
Define the settings and options as required. For detailed explanations of the available options, refer to section Restore event options.
You can view the status of your restore jobs. In Web UI navigate to Monitoring -> Restores and review the job results. The restore status overview provides information about the restore jobs, including the backup task name, start and stop time of the restore, restore type, data size, assigned media pool, etc. You can also open and review details of the restore job or restore task.
Restore event options
When creating or modifying a restore event, the following options are available to customize its settings and behavior.

Backup selection | |
As defined in task | Select this option if you want to run the restore using the same backup saveset and settings specified in the restore task. Note that the As defined in task and Custom options are mutually exclusive. |
Custom | Select this option if you want to customize the backup selection for your restore operation, for example, you can specify to use the most recent backup result. |
Relative backup day | Specify the number of days in the past to define the time frame from which a selection of savesets is created that will be considered for the restore operation.
Negative numbers indicate days in the past, and 0 represents the current day. Note that positive values cannot be set, as they would indicate a time range in the future. For example, if you specify a relative time frame from -7 to -2, the system will collect savesets from the past five days, starting from seven days ago and ending with the day before yesterday (two days ago). Similarly, a relative time frame from -10 to 0 will collect savesets from the last 10 days. |
State | Select the backup completion status of the savesets that you want to restore. The available options are:

Backup level | Specify the backup level for the saveset that that you want to restore. The available options are C (copy backup), F (full backup), D (differential backup), and I (incremental backup). |
Selection | Select which specific backup saveset you want to restore. The available options are:

Pool restriction | Optionally, you can select the media pool from which the saveset must originate. Only savesets stored in the selected media pool will be considered for the restore. |
Sequence control | |
Priority | Select a priority that will determine the relative importance of this event and establish the execution order of events in a backup day. Event priorities in SEP sesam range from 1 (lowest) to 99 (highest). Events with priority 0 are always executed first, cannot be blocked or used for blocking events. |
Blocking date | Select this option to create a blocking event that prevents the execution of equal events scheduled on the same backup day as the blocking event, but with lower priority. By using this option, events associated with the same task and having lower priority will be blocked from starting. |
Destination | |
Drive | Optionally, you can select the drive number of the drive that will be used to write the data to the target location. This option is useful when you have multiple drives configured and wish to allocate a specific drive exclusively for the restore process. |
