5 1 0:Configuring Huawei OceanStor System

From SEPsesam

Welcome to the latest SEP sesam documentation version 5.1.0 Apollon. For previous documentation version(s), check documentation archive.

Overview

SEP sesam provides functionality to backup and restore virtual environment hosted on Huawei OceanStor storage system. In addition to NDMP backup task type, SEP sesam also supports VMware backup using hardware snapshots.

This procedure involves configuration steps that are performed on the Huawei OceanStor management console. The steps provide only the basic information, required to configure the storage system for SEP sesam. For more detailed explanations and instructions refer to documention for your OceanStor system.

Configuration procedure

To establish connectivity and enable SEP sesam access to the OceanStor system, configure a host group with access to the target LUN groups, and add a host with configured initiator:

  1. Log in to Huawei OceanStor Device Manager console.
  2. Navigate to Services and under Block Service click Host Groups.
  3. Create a new host group. A host group is intended to organize and manage hosts that require access to specific storage resources, configured with LUN groups. In Host Groups tab click Create, enter the Name for the host group, and select Owning vStore. Optionally, enter a description for the group.

  5. Add a host to the group. A host is the SEP sesam data mover for VMware vSphere. In the Create Host Group window click Create Host. Enter the Name of the host and select the OS of the host system. Optionally, enter the IP address of the host.

  7. Configure an iSCSI initiator on the host. An initiator is a component on the SEP sesam data mover iSCSI client (the host system), that is used to connect to the storage resources. It is identified by an iSCSI Qualified Name (IQN) and IP address. In the Create Host window, under Initiators, click iSCSI and then click Create Initiator. Enter the IQN of the SEP sesam data mover. For the inititator you can either disable authentication, or configure CHAP authentication as required for accessing the volumes (VMware datastores).

  9. Finish the configuration of your components. Click OK to create the initiator, to create the host and to create the host group. In the process you will be warned to to make sure the initiator is configured correctly.

  11. To grant access to the storage resources as required, map your Host Group to the LUN groups. Select your host group, click Mapping, and then in Operations drop-down list select Map LUN Group. Select the LUN groups you want to map. Optionally, you can create a new LUN group.

What's next?

To set up the regular backup of hardware snapshots in your virtual environment, you need to add the storage server as a SEP sesam Client and then create and schedule the backup task. For more information see VMware Backup Using Hardware Snapshots.

To set up regular NDMP backup, where the data from the NDMP host is backed up and transferred over a TCP/IP connection to SEP sesam Server's connected storage, add the OceanStor NDMP host as a SEP sesam Client and then configure the NDMP backup task. For more information see NDMP Backup.
