Virtualization Are you looking for an alternative for your VMware environment?

SEP supports a range of hypervisors, offering snapshot-based online backup of VMs.

Click HERE to get an overview of the available SEP modules and explore supported features like CBT, Single File Restore, and more.

Overview

Once your Azure VM environment is prepared, you can configure backups in SEP sesam. This process involves creating a backup client, creating backup tasks, and scheduling them according to your requirements. In the Web UI, you can use the Backup Configuration Assistant, which enables you to complete all steps in a single workflow.

Each VM requires a dedicated backup task; you cannot back up multiple VMs with one backup task. It is recommended to group the Azure VM backup tasks and then schedule the backup group to optimize the backup process and reduce administrative overhead.

Note
Only the COPY level is supported, providing a complete backup of the VM.

Configuring Azure VM backup

To configure the backup of your Azure VM environment, first add the Azure VM as a client to the SEP sesam environment. To enable SEP sesam access to the Azure VM resources, you need the Service Principal identity credentials for SEP sesam:

{
"appId": "<application ID>",
"displayName": "<identity>",
"password": "<password>",
"tenant": "<tenant ID>"
}

For example:

{
"appId": "4m3r160-1497-73rr4n0v4-M4g3l14n",
"displayName": "SEPsesamBackupServicePrincipal",
"password": "M9-n4m3~15_n30",
"tenant": "54n7aM4r14-12oct-1492-242-20m1506a54"
}

Configure Azure VM as SEP sesam Client

With this information, you can create a SEP sesam Client either in the GUI or in the Web UI. In Web UI, the new client is created in the Client selection step in the Backup Configuration Assistant:

  1. In the Web UI, select Assistants from the navigation menu, and then click Backup Configuration. This opens the Backup Configuration Assistant, which will guide you through a series of steps to configure your backup.
