Configuring LoadBalancing

From SEPsesam

Welcome to the latest SEP sesam documentation version 5.1.0 Apollon. For previous documentation version(s), check documentation archive.

Overview

This article describes how to configure load balancing for a data store in a Sesam Server environment. Load balancing is used to distribute backups performed by Sesam to multiple targets (volumes).

Prerequisites

To use load balancing, at least two or more backup targets (volumes) must exist:

Configuring Load Balancing

To configure load balancing, proceed as follows:

  1. The first step is to create a path datastore (for example: balance) with a drive group and a media pool that points to the first target volume.
  2. In the second step, another path datastore (balance1) is created in which the same drive group is used but no media pool is created. This additional path datastore points to the second target volume.
  3. Proceed in the same way with each additional target volume that you want to use for balancing.
  4. Note
The probability with which the backups are saved to the various target volumes during load balancing depends on the capacity and fill level of the target volumes and cannot be influenced.
